point の元の意味は「とがった物の先端」です。そこから発展して「地点」「得点」「要点」など様々な意味をもつようになりました。

・to the point
例：Her reply was to the point.
「彼女の答えは適切だった。」

・on the point of doing
例：He was on the point of leaving.
「彼はまさに出発しようとしていた。」

・make a point of doing
例：She always makes a point of being punctual.
「彼女はいつも時間を厳守する。」

・come to the point
What are you trying to say? Come to the point.
「何が言いたいの？単刀直入に言いなさい。」

・The point is 〜
例：The point is that he made a big mistake.
「要するに彼は大間違いをしたのだ。」

・point out 〜
例：He pointed out a few mistakes in my composition.
「彼は私の作文の2、3の誤りを指摘した。」
